Lesson 5: Chaos and Trust
and Elements of Change
by Dr. Nancy Moelk

Jesus talked about how the Kingdom of God is come upon you. It has to do with God’s idea and way coming in to take over the way that is already there. When God brings what He has to offer, other things have to be taken away. There is a constant battle between the chaos of sin and God coming in and hovering over that and beginning to establish His order. God brings in chaos to destroy chaos. For example, the flood, the destruction of the Temple, invasion of Israel’s land, etc. He destroys the chaos created by the rebellion and sin of people by sending His own version of chaos. One kind of chaos comes through evil. It is the result of separation from God.  And now for God to come in and bring redemption and change things back there is another kind of chaos that has to happen. There is a violence to evil, but there is also a violence to healing and restoration. It is all through the Bible. Think of the violence of the Cross. If a person sets their heart for God to come in and have a relationship with Him nothing can remain the same. There needs to be a violent usurping of what is in their soul. When we live in the illusion of separation and isolation from God, there are all kinds of twisting that go on in the soul that becomes “normal” to a person. Like a person in a violent car wreck, everything has to be set back in order.
