Lord Jesus, bless this class. This is about the spirit man and prophecy.
Come now, bless everyone listening to it. Let their ears be open. Let the truth of God come forward. Let the power of God manifest itself in Jesus' name.
All right.
Today's class is about something that my life experience set me up for in really kind of a beautiful way—to be able to tell the difference between the two voices that come to us.
One is the voice of the prophetic. That is a gift of the Holy Spirit that comes upon us, much like the Holy Spirit dove that came upon Jesus.
And then the voice of the spirit man—as we connect with the spirit man, that becomes kind of an internal gyroscope, an internal MapQuest, as you might say. And that's really open 24/7.
So the choice is for us:
Learn to recognize the difference between the two voices and cultivate both of them.
Avoid a common misconception that many prophetic people have: that though they really do hear from God, many times they make mistakes or don't ask the right questions. Their lives are not always in very good order.
In other words, prophetic people often have a reputation of being flaky—which I don't find to be universally true—but I do think they make more mistakes than really is necessary. Their lives, certainly for many people, could go a lot better than they do.
I want to explain to you the difference between these two operations. We've been given two eyes so we can see, and two ears so we can hear well. There's a whole dimension that is lost if we don't hear from God in two different ways on a pretty regular basis.
The spirit man is the molecule of God within us that's located physically—though not physically present—around the solar plexus. That’s called the sun center. That part of us is linked to the mind of God and is a portal to everything that’s in the mind of God. And you can ask good questions—a lot like you ask questions to your phone.
You can ask things that you don't know, like: “Where are my keys?” “Is this a good person?” Many things like that.
I was in a Christian order for 20 years, starting when I was 21. We had a very strong emphasis on connecting with the spirit man and on the Light of Christ.
The Light of Christ is the beginning of connecting with the spirit man. The Light is the radiant energy of Christ Himself—power, force, and energy—not wisdom from a book. Though the Bible will lead us to that same Light, as the Light of Christ grows in power within you, it starts to disintegrate and change the veil that each person comes into this world with, that surrounds the spirit man and obscures it from us to some degree.
So when Jesus was crucified, the veil of the temple—that’s us—was torn in twain, and the Holy of Holies was revealed. That’s the spirit man. That’s the Holy of Holies within us. There was a distinct Holy of Holies in the temple, but this is the one that’s inside of us. To connect with that part of yourself is very important.
I spent 20 years developing the Light and developing my connection with the spirit man. I had very little contact with prophecy, just beyond reading the Bible about the different prophets. I didn’t really recognize prophecy as a thing. It was not a strong part of my life. And the order liked the Holy Spirit, but we spent a lot more time on the Light of Christ.
We certainly spent a lot of time thinking and moving with Jesus, but as far as personal development, connecting to the spirit man and developing the Light within us as a resident power of God was what was really important to us.
The voice of prophecy is one that all of you are somewhat familiar with. But I’m not sure that you’re as familiar with the voice of the spirit man. If you’re not, it would be good for you to develop that part of yourself.
The common misconception when you have half the truth is that you have all the truth—even if that truth is critically important. Many people in the American church have the same problem. And the fact is, many prophetic people behave in ways that demonstrate that they only have half the truth.
And it’s kind of like, “Well, wait a minute, they really do hear from God.” And it’s confusing. It’s sort of like, “Well God, I hear from You. Why didn’t You warn me I was gonna wreck my car or have a bad relationship with that person?”
And it’s a little confusing. But we’re really made to be in contact with God 24/7—His resident power, His Holy of Holies within us, and our ability to speak to that part as a 24/7 event.
So today I just want to bring you up and challenge a common misconception, because you're a group of prophetic people.
I left the order after 20 years, and this teaching became very clear to me. Now, I had a five-year hiatus where I was still in touch with the spirit man, but not in touch very much with the Holy Spirit of prophecy.
I’ve always been a strong Christian. I’ve done a lot of service and charity work and brought over 400 people to Christ. But after the five years, the Toronto Blessing came along in 1995, and I was powerfully overwhelmed with the Holy Spirit in ways that were quite wonderful.
And God dumped prophecy on me. He just gave it to me. All of a sudden, I was very good at prophecy.
At the time, I didn’t want it. I thought it was weird. I thought prophecy was holding a sign and saying, “Repent!”
I went on a trip with my friends to Niagara Falls, and the Lord said, “I’m going to use you mightily in prophecy,” when I didn’t know what prophecy was. But He said it real loud as I stared at the falls.
And about a month after that, He told me He was going to use me powerfully in the prophetic. I started to prophesy very, very well. And that went on for about two years. I would sometimes prophesy a whole typewritten page for someone—completely accurate. Actually, I did some of the best prophecy of my life because the Lord had opened up that gift to me in a whole piece.
One night, I prophesied for 400 people.
After that, I had to work and develop the gift of prophecy—which I did happily because I get excited about things and then go after them. So I spent another seven years developing that gift.
So I had a real clear demonstration: What is it like to hear the spirit man? (It had never left me.) And what is it like to also hear the voice of God through prophecy?
Those two together have left me able to navigate not only my own life, but quite a few other people's lives. As I’ve been a Christian counselor for over 30 years, I’ve been able to help navigate a lot of people through their lives pretty well.
And you get plenty of feedback as a counselor, because you’re charging, and because people let you know if your words come true or if they don’t.
There are many people who are strongly prophetic, but are very much out of touch with the spirit man. So I want to encourage you today to realize that both things need to happen.
Don’t you want both eyes? If you close one eye, see how well you see. If you stop up one ear, you won’t hear very well. You may not be hearing as you should.
What if you drove for 10 minutes with both eyes open and then for five minutes with one eye shut? Try it sometime.
No, don’t.
Here are some ways to grow in being able to hear the spirit man:
As we meditate and move into the solar plexus area, where we can sense the most heat or magnetism or light—or a combination of these—we draw closer to the power and wisdom of God that is His own substance in the center of us. And that will start to touch our souls and change us after His image.
So as we go down and connect with this part of us, which is really the very best part of us that will last forever, we will slowly be transformed after the image of our Father in heaven and of Christ.
So I recommend that you spend time doing two things:
Doing the Light Exercise you can find on our website firehouseministries.com. It’s called the Full Body Scan.
Spending time going directly to the spirit man and becoming as one with that as you can.
This will change the heaviness and darkness in our soul that keeps us apart from the Light and eternal power of our Father in heaven.
So I want to encourage you to spend time on this and learn to differentiate the voices—learn to tell the difference between the voice of the spirit man and the voice of the prophetic.
Just like I can tell Tim’s voice from Nathan’s valley voice without thinking about it, you can learn to tell the difference between the voice of prophecy that comes to you and the voice of the spirit man.
And when you become more attuned to various heavenly beings and creatures and angels, you can also learn their voice—to the point where, just like we know different human voices, we will come to know who they are when they address us.
So I ask that the Lord will bless you and start to pry apart and move aside anything that would block you from this reality—anything that would slow the prophetic process down, anything that would slow the process that moves you closer to being able to have 24/7 guidance from the spirit man, which is the best part of you.
It is like a shining pearl inside of you. If you ever want to know what it looks like, look up what the Crab Nebula looks like. At the very center, there is this glowing, luminescent pearl-like ball—and you have something very much like that inside you.
The ancients used to say, As above, so below.
As we come into Christ Jesus, the veil that is around the spirit man is ripped in two, and our chances of getting closer to that part of ourselves become much, much better than if we don’t know the Lord.
So getting saved, of course, is the primary needful thing in life. Beyond that, it helps us move into the Holy of Holies within ourselves.
Not that we’re worshiping ourselves—this is a tiny molecule of the Father God, whom we worship as a whole being. So we don’t worship ourselves. We connect with Father God through this part of us that is literally part of Him.
So today, I want to bless all of you to wake up to the spirit man within you, as well as an increase in the prophetic and the Holy Spirit.
Bless you this day in Jesus’ name. Amen.
