Desire can drive us to do things we really don’t want to do. That is what it takes for us to change, an intense desire for things to be different in our lives. Unfortunately, the traditional attitude in the Christian church concerning desire and ambition has gotten a bad rap in the Christian church, people have been led to believe they should be ashamed if they have desire or ambition. Desire is God given. A child has desires of different things he wants to be. It helps us to accomplish things. Especially if unpleasant. Desire and passion are helpful and shouldn’t be discouraged. Lesson 4: Weak as a Kitten by Richard Kinney First of all we need a child-like relationship with God. We have to grow in it. But after being there for a season, there comes a time when we need to step up to the next level of relationship. The next is bridal love where what is required of us is more demanding. God will call us up to higher level of love. Bridal love requires an intimacy that isn’t needed in the Father-child relationship which is a simpler relationship. And after bridal love comes, hopefully, a spousal relationship. Loneliness and frustration are two things that indicate it might be time to move on. What used to stimulate us and cause us to feel close to God no longer seems to have the same affect. Many have learned to minister by being a pipe line of God’s grace that flows to others. But a pipeline is empty. So when ministry time is over you are still empty. The goal is not to become a pipe. You are meant to become one with what is in the pipe. Jesus set the example: I and the Father are One. You and Jesus are supposed to become intermeshed so closely that people say, “Who is here?” We need to have the Father speak our name to us and we need to look back to Him and have Him to say “I approve of you, I love you”. “Hi, how are you doing?” If Jesus showed up in room He would talk to you. He would say hello to you. He was humble and willing to hang out with people--with individuals. We desperately need the personal relationship with God. And if someone accentuates what is “right” about you then it will precipitate growth in you. Think of David for a moment. Many people wonder how God could look at David and see someone who was "a man after His own heart" when David was as murderer and adulterer. But God saw what was good about David: his passion and David's efforts to walk with God through his life. Like David, God is most interested in what is right and good about us as well. We will have an easier time having intimacy with Jesus with more emotional health. If we have low self-esteem, it hinders us from experiencing the depth of His love. The children of Israel were freed from the bondage of Egypt and their enemies destroyed. So, like us, as Christians, they were saved and “baptized.” But more change was required in their lives. Inside of them they were still “slaves” in their way of seeing themselves. They needed fresh encounters with God. And so do we. We don't want to just live out of our conversion experience. How can moments of seeming defeat be an opportunity for promotion. Part of it is that the Lion of Christ inhabits the Lamb of our vulnerability and sacrifice in our lives. When your challenging moment comes, you can choose to face it and win, or you can choose to walk away and lose. It is a day where you have a unique opportunity to move forward. Restaurants, riding in car, shopping, sports, outreaches, riding in a taxi, sitting on a park bench, sometimes at church, and especially at public charitable outreaches. How can caring too much what others think of us hinder our ability to share our faith? It will cause us to miss opportunities for praying with others because of our fear of man. How can getting more in touch with God and His voice leading you help you in sharing your faith and touching others for God. God can lead us towards those He is seeking to specifically speak to or touch. We will begin to feel His love towards those around us. Why is it important to feel God’s love for you as you seek to share with others the gospel? It opens the way for us to care for people in a whole new way. It will open the door for us feeling how God feels about them and we won’t minister out of obligation but out of love. Lesson 5: School of the Man God Grieves and Leads us to Grieve by Dr. Nancy Moelk Dr. Nancy Moelk explains how the grieving process is innate within us because we are made in God's image and He grieved. How does it help us to know that God grieves? It is easier to give ourselves permission to grieve and to know it is normal. Whether we had good or bad parents, it important to grieve losses associated with them. We were created for perfect love and even the best parents will fall short of it. Each stage of grief takes us one step further in embracing pain and letting go of trying to avoid accepting the loss and its effects. The last stage of grief is reconciliation and forgiveness. It is possible that a person may need to cycle through all the stages again even after having come to resolution in certain areas. And as we become safer and safer in our relationship with Christ and others, our greif will automatically come forward to be dealt with.
